As part of the Hunter Institute of TAFE the Commercial Catering and Nutrition Section has a unique role in the region.

The courses available at Wyong TAFE include:

  • Certificate Two in Health Care Assistance
  • Certificate Three in Nutrition and Dietary Practices
  • Certificate Three in Catering Operations
  • Certificate Two in Kitchen Operations
  • TVET studies for year 11 and 12 high school students in Commercial Cookery, Food and Beverage or Nutrition and Dietetics.

The section is equipped with modern commercial kitchens and a purpose built Cook Chill Kitchen designed for training students in the best practices for bulk cooking for large organizations such as Hospitals, Child Care or Nursing Homes.

The Kitchen is used to support the catering classes and ventures undertaken off campus.

The Central Coast region is home to large numbers of residential care properties. Commercial Catering and Nutrition provide relevant workplace training, traineeships, flexible course and can customize training to suite the customer’s or workplace needs.

Students have opportunities for work placement and hands on experience in all courses. The Catering students are responsible for all aspects of running the Bellbird Café on Campus from menu design to Barista skills and table service.
